What Could Have Happened?
A problem could have occurred anywhere along the ‘chain’. Your domain name registrar may be experiencing problems, and therefore visitors are not being redirected to your website. Your website hosting may be experiencing issues, or indeed your internet connection on your computer or phone may be having issues which is stopping your site from loading.
If you’re not sure, you can try visiting https://downforeveryoneorjustme.com and enter your web address – this will tell you whether your website is unavailable for other people, and not just you.
Should My Site Go Down?
A website becoming unavailable is very common regardless of who your domain is registered with, or who the site is hosted with. It may have gone down many times, but you haven’t notice it. Perhaps the website server is rebooting, undergoing planned maintenance, or experienced a peak in traffic. On most occasions, the site will rectify itself within minutes, or your web host will be notified and they will fix it. To put things into perspective, for a web host to offer 99.9% uptime, this leaves nearly 9 hours of cumulative downtime in a year!
Thankfully, our hosting clients do not experience even that level of downtime. Our website hosting is monitored 24/7 to ensure issues are dealt with promptly. Clients hosted on our Silver and Gold hosting packages have their website traffic passing through a firewall, so issues are highlighted even more quickly and resolved as soon as possible.
